The National Alliance on Mental Illness of Southwest Louisiana (NAMI Southwest Louisiana) is a nonprofit organization that provides support, education, and advocacy throughout the Southwest Louisiana area on behalf of individuals and families affected by mental illness.

NAMI Southwest Louisiana

NAMI Southwest Louisiana is here to help provide support and guidance for friends and family members seeking help along their mental health journey. Through NAMI’s support groups, educational programs, and other local resources, we are here to help support your mental health needs. NAMI SWLA understands that mental illness affects everyone, and offers understanding to anyone concerned about mental illness and treating their mental health.

Mental illnesses are brain disorders that are biologically-based medical problems. Untreated, they can cause severe disturbances in thinking, feeling and relating. This results in substantially diminished capacity for dealing with the ordinary demands of life. Mental illness can affect persons of any age and occur in any family. They are not caused by bad parenting and not evidence of weakness of character.

Mission

Our mission at NAMI Southwest Louisiana is to improve the quality of life of all those affected by mental illness through education, advocacy, and support.

Vision

Our vision at NAMI Southwest Louisiana is to assist the community, local agencies, mental health rehabilitation services, and volunteer leaders in uniting together to obtain a better understanding of mental illness.
